My Starry Night

Make the stars sing and dance for someone you love. Create your own personalized video of the stars and constellations that were visible overhead on any night with music generated by the stars themselves. Mark any special date like the arrival of a new baby, a loved one’s birthday, an anniversary, or the night your universe changed forever!

You choose any date and location and an animation is generated showing the visible stars and constellations over the entire night. The music is generated by converting each star’s color and brightness into a musical note through a process called sonification.

My Starry Night is created and run entirely by astrophysicist Dr. Matt Russo and musician Andrew Santaguida. They also founded SYSTEM Sounds, an outreach project that converts the rhythms and harmonies of the cosmos into music and sound. They frequently collaborate with NASA to make astronomy more accessible to the blind and visually impaired.
